What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?

The work of childhood is playing, growing, moving, and learning.
However, what comes easy for many kids can present challenges for some kids. Whether that’s
meeting developmental milestones, connecting with friends and family, or learning in the
classroom. This is where pediatric occupational therapy (OT) can help! According to the American
Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), “Occupational therapy practitioners work with
children, youth, and their families, caregivers, and teachers to promote active participation in
activities or occupations that are meaningful.”

In a nutshell, pediatric OTs meet each child where they’re at – developmentally, socially, and emotionally. Then work to guide the child to learn emerging skills or adapt for a more successful daily experience at school and at home.

For many organizations who serve children, having an occupational therapist on staff is critical for creating supportive environments for learning and growing.

When Kids Get Needed Services, Your Organization Succeeds

With a pediatric specialist who understands the unique needs of kids, your organization will run smoother and be more effective in meeting your bigger mission. Whether that’s a school fulfilling IEPs or a therapy center moving kids off a waitlist and into their therapy sessions.
Check out some of the benefits of pediatric occupational therapy:
● Promote well-being and social connections with holistic, responsive care
● Increase confidence and independence by finding new ways to accomplish tasks
● Modify the environment to help a child be more successful in the classroom or
community
● Use assessment to gain clarity regarding why a child is struggling and then select
client-centered and individualized solutions
● Use play to practice emerging skills for quicker learning
● Encourage well-being, calm, and mindness using natural and evidence-based
techniques including yoga, meditation, essential oils, and breathwork
And so much more!
When it comes to helping a child overcome challenges, pediatric OTs are skillful at using creativity, problem solving, and teamwork to figure out new solutions.

Extending Our Skills to Kids in Your Care

From initial evaluation to ongoing treatments – we address a wide range of disabilities,
diagnoses, and mental health challenges. And many times, we see children who don’t have a

community.
With Elevated Therapy, we don’t just address the challenges of the child, we look at the whole
system around them. We know that parents, teachers, and support personnel are all important
parts of a child’s team.

Working with infants through 21 years of age, you’ll find the OTs of Elevated Therapy across
many settings:

Not everyone has the skills and patience to effectively work with children, making it
